Stan Mast

Calvin College, BA, 1968; Calvin Theological Seminary, BD, 1971; Calvin Theological Seminary, ThM in systematic theology, 1986; Denver Seminary, DMin in preaching, 1994. Stan spent 41 years in parish ministry in four very different churches: St. Louis, MO, Colorado Springs, CO, Byron Center, MI, and Grand Rapids, MI (where he was Minister of Preaching at the LaGrave Avenue CRC for 22 years). For three years, he was Coordinator of Field Education at Calvin Seminary before his stint at LaGrave. In 2012, Stan retired and then promptly un-retired to return to Calvin as Adjunct Professor of Preaching. While I was still in high school, I received a very direct call from God to spend my life in ministry. That call has always been first and foremost a call to preach the Gospel, because, as Paul says in Romans 8, "faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes by the preaching of Christ." It has been my joy to preach Christ for 45 years now and my privilege to see faith take root and flourish in response to that preaching. Stan is approaching 50 years of marriage. He and his wife enjoy their two sons and their five grandchildren. In his spare time, Stan keeps trying to solve the mystery that is golf. Areas of Interest: Preaching Christ from the Old Testament, Using the Heidelberg Catechism as a Map for Biblical Preaching, Various Styles of Preaching Possible Educational Offerings: series on Biblical Characters (Abraham, David, Joseph, etc.); series on books of the Bible (Minor Prophets, Gospel of Mark, Epistle to the Romans, Revelations, etc.); consulting with churches that want to do long range planning; preaching in churches all over West Michigan and beyond.
