Major Research Paper

All M.Div. students must either engage in a three-hour research project or take an additional general elective. The research project must focus in the area of a particular department, be supervised by that department, and be completed in the fall quarter of the last year of the student's regular course work. The subject is proposed by the student and approved by the department prior to May 15 of the academic year preceding the project. The end product of the research is a major paper, not less than 7,500 and not more than 12,500 words, which is prescribed, evaluated, and credited by the department.

M.T.S. students have the choice of doing this research paper or taking an additional course in historical theology. In either case the work should ordinarily be done during the second quarter of the second year in the program. Those doing the major research paper should follow the provisions outlined above and have their topic approved the quarter before the research is to be conducted.
