Bible Knowledge Comprehensive Examination

The primary purpose of the Bible Knowledge Comprehensive Examination is to test students' knowledge of the books of the Christian Scriptures. The examination tests students' knowledge of the principle theme of each book, key biblical texts, biblical geography, biblical history, biblical authors, and persons.

The examination consists of 150 multiple choice questions. To pass the examination, students must obtain a score of 110.

Preparation

To prepare for this examination, students are encouraged to read the introductions to each biblical book in the NIV Study Bible. The tables and maps in this study Bible are also helpful. Moreover, students are encouraged to practice for this examination by using the web-based examinations at http://www.whitneyhq.com. In the left tool bar is a tab called the Bible Content Exam Page. Click on it and it will open the tests for practice.

Schedule

The Bible Knowledge Comprehensive Examination is administered in the fall quarter, the winter quarter, and the spring quarter of the academic year. See the Comprehensive Exam Schedule for dates currently scheduled.

All incoming students in the MA, MTS, M.Div. and EMPC programs and students who have not yet sustained the Bible Knowledge Comprehensive Examination must take this test during the fall quarter. Those who do not sustain the test may retake it during the winter and spring quarters.

Location and Registration

The Bible Knowledge Comprehensive Examination is administered on ANGEL in the seminary's computer laboratory. Because the computer laboratory has only 30 computers, the Biblical Division will offer multiple sessions of the examination on the designated day.

To take the test, students must sign up for the Bible Knowledge Exam on the registration day of each quarter.

Special Circumstances

Students who have failed the examination during their final year may review the results by making special arrangements with the Vice-President for Academic Affairs.

Students who fail to sustain the Bible Knowledge Comprehensive Examination in the spring quarter of their final year may retake the examination in April and May by submitting a request to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs and by paying a $ 75.00 fee. This fee must be paid by a check made out to the Academic Office.

Re-examinations are not offered after the graduation date of each academic year. They will be offered again in the last week of August.

Off-Campus Students

Off-campus students who failed the Bible Knowledge Comprehensive Examination may retake it via the internet. Requests for re-examinations via the internet should be addressed to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs.

Off-campus students (interns and EPMC students) are allowed one free examination over the internet. For additional examinations they must pay a $ 75.00 fee per examination.
