Steps of the Admission Process

The purpose of the admissions process is for you to learn more about what Calvin Theological Seminary can offer you, as well as for the seminary to learn more about you and your calling. It allows our staff to begin to understand your unique skills and experiences and how Calvin can help develop those skills through our programs. We look forward to working with you to create a learning plan tailored to your academic and career goals.

Seminary School Requirements

Every program at Calvin has its own requirements. Our graduate degrees require a minimum cumulative GPA, and some require applicants to have taken classes in certain fields. We ask our PhD students to submit a short autobiography and statement of purpose so we can learn more about their backgrounds and goals. All degree programs require at least one reference.

Calvin’s Seminary Programs

Calvin offers a wide variety of programs to match our students’ diverse interests and career goals. We have several post-graduate and doctoral programs that allow students to work with staff to further specify their chosen field of study. We also offer a Certificate in Christian Leadership with a range of available concentrations, including Bible instruction, worship, ministry, and pastoral care. Some of our programs are also available fully in Spanish.

Online Seminary Programs

Many of our programs are available in an online or hybrid learning format. While our online seminary programs do not require students to study on Calvin’s campus in person, our hybrid courses require students to attend class on campus for one week each semester. This allows students a chance to get to know each other and their professors in a way that replicates an on-campus learning environment and facilitates relationship building.

International Seminary Students

Calvin is proud to be a school where international students can grow and thrive. We offer a wide range of programs and resources that are specifically designed to help international students succeed.

How Much Does Seminary Cost?

Every program at Calvin is unique and will have a different cost. We offer a detailed breakdown of the costs of each program that is updated each school year.

Opportunities for Seminary Scholarships

Calvin is committed to ensuring our students have access to resources that will secure their academic and financial success. Almost all of our admitted, full-time, degree-seeking students receive one or more scholarships. Many of our scholarships and financial aid packages are renewable and can be applied for multiple years.

We have also created scholarship opportunities to support a diverse student body, including scholarships for women and racial and ethnic minorities. We are proud to award close to $1.5 million in scholarships every year. Eligible students also have access to the Idema Food Pantry and Clothing Bank

Seminary Scholarships for International Students

We strive to offer scholarship opportunities that give international students the opportunity to attend Calvin. More information on financial aid is available by contacting the Enrollment Management office.
