Philip R. Vanden Berge

Philip Vanden Berge's name means "From the Hills" - but he was born in Grand Rapids, a self confessed member of "good Dutch stock". As well as earning his A.B., Philip has also participated in the Executive Business Development Program at Harvard Business School, and is a Certified Public Accountant. Philip came to Calvin Theological Seminary in 1995, four years after the split from the college, to fill the new position of Chief Financial Officer. Here is Philip's summary of his job:

"My responsibilities in this job are multiple and varied; overview of all financial activities including budgets, investments, financial reporting and planning, administration of student housing and staff salary and benefit issues. My duties also include financial reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Committee of the Board and the Administrative Committee of the Faculty."

Philip very much enjoys spending time with his grandchildren. Taking them fishing is a joy for him. Philip takes every opportunity to be outside, and particularly enjoys fly fishing. He always looks forward to an annual trip to Montana. Philip is also a musician and gets particular satisfaction from playing his tuba in the Jubal Brass and in the New Horizons Band. He sings with the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus and has been known to entertain his staff by singing along with Blue Lake Radio!
