On May 19, Calvin Theological Seminary celebrated graduation with the annual Commencement Celebration. This year sixty graduates and their family and friends celebrated the accomplishment of a completed degree or certificate program and remembered the faithfulness of God in this process. In his commencement speech, President Jul Medenblik encourage the graduates, as they enter ministry in a world full of anxiety and uncertainty, to consider their calling as “ambassadors of hope”.
In addition to looking forward to the future ministry of the graduates, the commencement service also provided a time of reflection. The members of the class of 1968 were recognized as we remembered the 50th anniversary of their graduation. Memories were shared of Professors Michael Williams and John Bolt as they enter retirement. And Christian Oh (Class of 1991) and Dennis Hoekstra (1961) were awarded with the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards, in recognition of their particular impact in ministry.
This celebration, like many similar celebrations before it, concluded with thanks to God for his numerous blessings. In the closing hymn “Now Thank We All Our God”, the graduates, faculty, staff, family, and friends joined together singing:
All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given, The Son and Spirit blest, who reign in highest heaven – The one eternal God, who heaven and earth adore; For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.
